Overview

Approval requests appear in your inbox when Teamper assigns you as an approver for a pending leave request or company request. Teamper only shows the action-required item for the current active approval step, so you only see work that is ready for your decision.

Who can use this

  • Department approvers
  • Company admins who are also acting as approvers
  • Direct managers who have been assigned an approval step

Before you start

You must have a pending approval step on the request. If you can open the request but do not see Approve or Reject, see Cannot approve a request.
After you enable push notifications on a browser and device, Teamper may send approval-critical leave alerts there. Inbox remains the in-app record for requests that need your action.

Leave approval reminders

For a leave request that is still pending, Teamper reminds the current actionable approver after 48 hours. If the request is still waiting for that approver, Teamper can send one more reminder 72 hours later. An approver receives no more than two reminders for the same request. Reminders are only for leave requests. Company request approvals do not receive these reminders. Teamper stops reminders when the request is resolved, moves to another approval step, or you are no longer an eligible approver. Each reminder appears as a read-only Updates item in Inbox and also sends an email. The email link always opens the latest request state, so check the current status and available actions before you decide.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Open Inbox in Teamper.
  2. Find the request under Action Required.
  3. Open the request detail page.
  4. Review the request details.
  5. For leave requests, check the employee, leave type, dates, duration, and reason.
  6. For company requests, check Summary, Approval Process, Request Details, and Timeline.
  7. Confirm that the request still shows a pending status and that you are the current approver.
  8. Optional: add a timeline comment when you want to leave context or a handoff note that is separate from the approval decision. Use @ to mention an eligible request viewer when you need their attention.
  9. Click Approve if the request can go ahead.
  10. Click Reject if the request cannot go ahead.
  11. Add a rejection reason when Teamper asks for one.
Timeline comments are available on supported leave request and company request detail pages. They appear in the same timeline as request activity, but they are separate from approval or rejection notes. Comments are plain text only and support up to 1000 characters. Leave Request and Company Request comments support @mentions; replies and attachments are not supported. On a Leave Request, you can mention an active person who already has access, such as the requester, their manager, an approver, a company admin, a person with Leave management responsibility, or a person the request was shared with. A mention never grants access. A newly mentioned person receives an Inbox update and email, and may receive a web push notification when enabled.

Share a leave request

When a leave request needs another person to collaborate, open the request and use the Shared with section.
  1. In Shared with, search for an active employee using Share with….
  2. Select the employee.
  3. To remove their access later, use the remove action beside their name.
The requester, company admins, people with Leave management responsibility, and managers who can manage the requester’s leave can share or remove access. You can only share with an active employee who does not already have access to the request. People you share with can open the request and add timeline comments. They cannot approve, reject, cancel, or otherwise change the request. Teamper sends them an Inbox update and email when you share the request. You can edit your own comments. You can delete your own comments, and company admins can also delete comments in the timeline. When someone deletes a comment, Teamper keeps a neutral Comment deleted tombstone in the timeline so the request history stays readable.

What happens next

When you approve a request, Teamper either moves it to the next approver or records the final approval. When you reject a request, Teamper records the rejection and the requester can review the result in Teamper. If the request was still waiting on other approvers, Teamper only activates the next approval step after the current one is completed. Older action-required items can become stale once the request moves on. If you leave a timeline comment while reviewing the request, that note stays in the shared history for other viewers of the request. Teamper also records sharing changes and leave-request lifecycle changes in this history. If a comment is later removed, Teamper keeps the deleted-comment tombstone in place.

Troubleshooting

I do not see the request in my inbox

Start with Missing approval requests.

I can open the request but cannot act on it

Start with Cannot approve a request.

I opened a reminder but the request has changed

This can happen when another approver acted, the request was cancelled, or your approval permission changed after the reminder was sent. Review the current request status and follow the guidance on Cannot approve a request.

A removed comment still appears in the timeline

This is expected. Teamper keeps a neutral Comment deleted tombstone so the timeline still shows that a comment existed at that point in the request history.

FAQs

Why did I receive this approval request?

You received it because Teamper resolved you as the current approver for that leave request or company request.

Can I approve a request from the request page instead of the inbox?

Yes. If the request is still pending and you are the current approver, you can act from the request detail page after opening it from Inbox or from the email link.

When will I receive a leave approval reminder?

Teamper sends the first reminder after 48 hours and can send one final reminder 72 hours later, only while you remain the current actionable approver.

Do company request approvals receive reminders?

No. These reminders apply only to pending leave requests.

Are timeline comments the same as approval or rejection reasons?

No. Approval or rejection reasons belong to that decision. Timeline comments are separate shared notes for context, handoff details, or follow-up information.

Who can edit or remove a timeline comment?

You can edit your own comments. You can delete your own comments, and company admins can also delete comments in the timeline.

Can I use mentions, replies, or attachments in timeline comments?

Leave Request and Company Request comments support @mentions for eligible request viewers. A mention does not give a person access to a request. Replies and attachments are not supported.

Does sharing a leave request let someone approve it?

No. Sharing gives the selected employee view and comment access only. They cannot approve or change the request.

Who can share or remove access to a leave request?

The requester, company admins, people with Leave management responsibility, and managers who can manage the requester’s leave can manage sharing.
